Dependable ADAS by Combining Design Time Testing and Runtime Monitoring

The increasing degree of the complexity of advanced driverassistance systems (ADAS) requires sound, but efficient methods to ensurethe ADAS’ dependability. Common vehicle field tests cannot fullyguarantee the system’s dependability, since they need too many miles tobe driven in order to prove that the system is safe. Modern test and simulationenvironments only verify a part of the real situations the systemencounters. In order to ensure the dependability of ADAS, we proposethe combination of design time testing and runtime monitoring. The testcases, which are successfully executed at design-time, are transferred toruntime monitoring in order to verify if the system remains within itstested and safe behaviour. Otherwise, no guarantees about the dependabilityof the vehicle can be given. We will evaluate our approach withan advanced lane changing assistance system.
